KEPALA BATAS: Police detained a man after he drove against traffic while under the influence of alcohol on the North-South Expressway in Seberang Prai, early today.
The 56-year-old was arrested at the Sungai Dua toll plaza SmartTAG lane at about 2.30am.
He is believed to have travelled in the wrong direction for at least eight kilometres, from the Bertam toll plaza to the Sungai Dua toll plaza, before being stopped and arrested.
No casualties or accidents were reported in the incident.
"He had wanted to return home to Bukit Tambun after a night out at a club. However, he only realised he missed his turn when he drove all the way to the Bertam toll plaza.
"We have taken his blood samples, and believe that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident," said Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor.
The case is being investigated under Section 42 and 45a of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above prescribed limit.
